Monk Reloaded by Philéas Fogg Trio - Saturday 29 July at 11.30am - Life Way Auditorium

“As a trio we find Thelonious Monk’s music a constant source of marvel and inspiration: it is highly rhythmical and mysterious, littered with hooks yet convoluted, charming always, dissonant sometimes and eternally beautiful”.  Monk Reloaded by Philéas Fogg Trio seeks to embrace the lyrical and romantic aspects of Monk’s music through a quintessentially European interpretation. Andreana Micanova (Macedonia) on piano, Dan Seddon (UK) on bass and Philippe Castermane (France) on drums, invite you to share a moment exploring the timeless Monk’s songbook.

The New York Sessions with Dan Bolton - Saturday 29 July at 1.30pm - Life Way Auditorium

Dan has performed his shows throughout the US, Japan, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand. He has spent many years in New York City where he carved out a niche with his own act.  Dan has recently recorded 3 albums, The New York Sessions, Volumes 1, 2 and 3 which he will be featuring in his show. His songs are 21st Century standards, incorporating elements of jazz, pop and Latin American styles. His music is reminiscent of George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin but with a modern twist. For every one of Dan’s songs there is a story behind it. Drawing on his life experiences, he delights in engaging his audiences so they feel as much a part of his songs as he does.  Also featured in his quartet will be Launceston musicians, Andy Dennis on drums, Peter Waddle on bass and Phil Pitcher on sax.

Many Rivers by Nick Haywood Trio - Saturday 29 July at 3.30pm - Life Way Auditorium

The Nick Haywood Trio’s new Jazzhead release, Many Rivers is a continuation of Nick’s obsession with taking simple themes and allowing complexity to unfold as a collective process. The trio of Nick Haywood (double bass), Colin Hopkins (piano) and Niko Schauble (drums), have produced a recording that invites the listener to participate in the exciting musical journey that unfolds throughout. This concert features some original tunes alongside unexpected selections such as Stevie Nicks’ Landslide and The Moody Blues Nights in White Satin. There are also two improvisations by the trio that explore uncharted territory.
